Dear Soup,

I’m a dog-loving human gardener. My beloved pooch keeps damaging my plants with her wily ways. What can I do?

Desperate,
Gloria B.

Dear Desperate,

The first step is to mark the plants as your territory. You have peed on them all already, correct?

If that is not enough to deter her, plant more sturdy plants that can hold up to canine affections, like Russian sage, Mexican primrose, lilacs, and laurels. And carpet the trouble spots with pinecones… I don’t know many dogs who will want to romp there.

But step one is crucial. Really.

Namaste and Woof,
Soup
