Josie Lenwell

I have always been awakened by color and light. Whether wandering city streets or the deserts and high country of New Mexico, I seek to capture the effects of nature and light on structures of an earlier time. My eyes are drawn to the patina rooftops, weather vanes and victorian frilleries that adorn the older city dwellings and to the rough crumbling bricks of an old adobe home or church returning to the earth. I turn my lens toward the weathered gates and splintered windows and doors thru which people and light have come and gone.

I carry my camera everywhere taking advantage of the moment, whether or not nature is cooperating. Some of my best photos are taken in less than perfect light with a less than perfect sky but what I love is to come back to my studio, download my photos and play with the images, adding filters, adjusting the hues, saturation and the contrast until the image I captured takes on a life of its own.
