E. Louise Graves
E. Louise Graves of Taos, New Mexico, finished raising her family and returned to painting after being in oils and pastels years ago. She discovered watercolors and fell in love with the softness and fluidity of the medium. She takes private and group classes during the summer with Odie McReynolds of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Taos.
Her work has been featured at the Historic 802 Gallery in Taos, and is currently showing at the Angus McDougall Gallery in Bernalillo, New Mexico. She has participated in several shows, including the Fall Arts Festival's Taos Open, the 2001 Watercolor Invitational and Art in Bloom, both at the Millicent Rogers Museum, Vail Fine Art's Pendaries Art Festival, and the Taos Art Association. In addition, her art has been auctioned to benefit Child Rite, Habitat for Humanity, Taos Land Trust, and PBS Denver. The Roseburg Country Club in Oregon proudly houses many of her floral paintings in their resident gallery and her work is in private collections throughout the United States, France, Switzerland, and Puerto Rico.
In addition to volunteer work, she loves to garden and spend time with her grandchildren, Lia and Jack.
"I love to paint big, bright flowers; they fit in almost any home, any decor. As the world becomes more and more stressful, I find that flowers are comforting and cheerful. I've more recently created multi-media collages and am presently painting cranes. I'm exploring more abstract forms and the response has been great!"
Her work can also be seen at her home and studio in Taos by appointment.
